Research & Development
Webroot is committed to being the leader in online threat research and mitigation.
Phileas
The ability of an anti-spyware vendor to identify new spyware and build definitions to block or remove spyware from user machines is fundamental to the effectiveness of their solutions. Webroot recently introduced the security industry's first automated spyware research system designed specifically to discover and identify spyware anywhere on the worldwide web. The system, called Phileas, is capable of intelligently scanning thousands of sites per second to identify and report new threats. With Phileas, Webroot has defined the next phase in spyware research. By automating this process, Webroot is able to find spyware as soon as it is released and deploy zero-day protection before customers are able to unwittingly infect their PCs.
Webroot designed Phileas on the assumption that an effective anti-spyware vendor must have a fast and accurate solution for identifying newly released spyware and building protection for customers. Phileas is just one example of the commitment Webroot has made to its customers to provide the best possible protection online.

Community Involvement
Webroot is actively involved with several organizations including the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) and the Colorado Office of Innovation and Technology.
Together, Webroot and the NCMEC are working to increase the recovery rate of missing children through an opt-in online service provided by Webroot called Missing Kids Online Alert (MKOA). The service displays a rapid pop-up message notification to subscribers in an area where a missing child was possibly spotted. The Amber Alert is a similar service limited to subscribers in the state of Colorado. Webroot pushes out alerts about missing children when notified by the Colorado Bureau of Investigations.
Webroot worked with the Colorado Office of Innovation and Technology to deliver a free version of Spy Sweeper to all Colorado residents prior to tax time this year. The reception to this program was enormously successful, and demonstrates consumers' interest in protecting the private data, such as sensitive tax documents, on their PC.
