DELIVERING DESKTOP WEB PROXY
Preventing user attempts to evade usage policies and monitoring
Users commonly attempt to get around web usage policies by uninstalling, bypassing or switching-off the security in place. To counter this behavior, Webroot uses a tamperproof Desktop Web Proxy (DWP) agent to transparently authenticate users and to make it impossible for them to turn-off or kill the web security. This ensures web use is directed through and monitored by the Webroot Web Gateway.
Unlike other authentication and directional proxy controls—such as flash cookies—users cannot circumvent the DWP. This approach ensures consistent enforcement of web policies whether users are in the office or at any other location..
The Webroot security service has integrated seamlessly with our network and has served as an additional resource, just like having an extra member of our team keeping an eye out for potential threats.

Multi-Function DWP Agent
Once installed on users’ computers, the Webroot DWP agent makes it possible to administer many aspects of the service remotely—from controlling which sites will not be filtered to transparently negotiating hot spots for roaming users. It also automatically configures the user’s browser to direct all web traffic via Webroot data centers, or optionally switch to any on-site caching proxies already present inside your network.
The DWP agent automatically creates new users in the service, eliminating the need to manually enter users or synchronize with Active Directory*.
* Both options are still available and may be used seamlessly alongside the DWP agent.
Support for Terminal Servers and Citrix
The DWP agent provides transparent user authentication with no user login required. This includes the ability to authenticate individual users into multi-tenant environments such as Citrix and Terminal Services.
It also automatically configures user endpoints to route all HTTP and HTTPS web traffic to the most optimal Internet access point regardless of geographic location. This feature further allows organizations to monitor and protect users outside the network without ever having to backhaul their traffic via a VPN.
In addition, the agent intelligently negotiates portals and hotspots, minimizing the need for mobile or remote user IT support. All agent updates are completely automatic while remaining under the full control of the administrator.
Memory Spyware Scanning
The DWP agent helps facilitate the scanning of memory on users endpoints to detect over 4,500 different forms of malware, helping to counter web malware threats that use this method of infection.
